Numbers down at Doncaster

Doncaster Bloodstock Sales’s October
Yearling Sale followed the downward trend of the lower-tier
yearling auctions on Monday when returning an average and median
which were down by 35 percent and 33 percent, respectively. DBS
Managing Director Henry Beeby was not downcast, however.

“We were
perfectly satisfied with the day’s trade in the current economic
climate, as horses were selling and that is what we are here to
do,” he said. “I think that vendors have been realistic with the
values that they put on the horses before the sale and this,
combined with the increased selling rate of the DBS auctioneers,
allowed us to provide an acceptable days trade.”

Topping
proceedings on the day was Hip No. 239, a son of Kheleyf consigned by
Herringswell Manor Stud who was knocked down to trainer Karl
Burke of Lord Shanakill fame for 25,000 guineas. Trainer David Nicholls
had earlier snapped up the top-priced filly of the session when
paying 20,000 guineas for Colin Tinkler’s Hip 80, a son of Reset
whose half-brother Boudin (Peintre Celebre) made a winning
debut for the Andre Fabre stable at Longchamp on Sunday. He was
purchased on behalf of owner Dr Marwan Koukash.
