Eddington’s first winner strikes in England

Grade 1 star EDDINGTON (Unbridled) registered his first winner as a freshman
sire when Silenceofthewind rolled in Thursday’s 1ST race at
Newcastle in England. Dispatched as the 13-8 favorite in his second start, the
Karl Burke pupil was prominent throughout before impressively kicking three
lengths clear. The $310,000
Keeneland September yearling purchase completed six furlongs on the good-to-firm
course in 1:13.77. Silenceofthewind, owned by Mogeely Stud and Mrs. Maura
Gittins, holds a pair of notable entries, including the September 12 National S.
(Ire-G1) at the Curragh.

Eddington first vaulted into prominence at Gulfstream Park in early 2004,
when he broke his maiden and cleared his entry-level allowance condition by a
combined 10 1/4 lengths. The big chestnut was then pitted against the elite of
his division, placing third in the Gotham S. (G3), Wood Memorial (G1) and
Preakness S. (G1), fourth in the Belmont S. (G1) and Jim Dandy S. (G2), and
third in the Travers S. (G1). After a near-miss second in the Pegasus H. (G3),
the maturing Eddington started to put it all together with a rallying victory in
the grassy Calder Derby (G3).

The Mark Hennig trainee was just reaching his prime as a four-year-old. A
smashing 5 1/4-length hero of the Pimlico Special (G1) in his final start,
Eddington also racked up a 3 1/4-length triumph in the Gulfstream Park H. (G2)
as well as a pair of thirds in the Donn H. (G1) and Oaklawn H. (G2). Retired
with an injury that cut short his promising campaign, he compiled a mark of
17-6-3-6, $1,216,760.

Eddington was produced by the multiple Grade 3-placed Fashion Star (Chief’s
Crown), who is also the dam of Dubai International Carnival veteran Star Crowned
(Kingmambo), third in the 2008 Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1). Fashion Star is a
half-sister to French Group 1 victor Miserden (Private Account), and she hails
from the family of millionaire champion turf mare Possibly Perfect (Northern
Baby).

The eight-year-old Eddington stands at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Kentucky,
for $15,000, stands and nurses.
