Woodbine jockeys recovering from spill

Jockeys Chad Beckon and Simon Husbands are recovering after a spill in
Wednesday evening’s 3RD race at Woodbine.

Beckon was aboard Oliver’s Strike (Smart Strike), who broke down on the far
turn of the one-mile-and-seventy-yard maiden special weight, sending his rider
to the track. Husbands was also thrown to the ground when his mount, Kensington
Oval (With Approval), fell over Oliver’s Strike.

Beckon and Husbands were both taken to a local hospital.

Beckon suffered the worse injuries with a fractured vertebra, broken nose and
broken cheek bone.

“He woke up on his own and he knows Cory (Beckon’s wife) is with him,” said
Tony Esposito, Beckon’s agent. “He has full mobility of his arms and legs. He’s
holding her hand and squeezing it. We’re optimistic. Every bit of good news is
great to hear.”

“Simon went home from the hospital last night and is a little banged up,”
said Robert King, secretary/manager, of the Jockeys’ Benefit Association of
Canada. “All of our thoughts are with Chad and Simon and their families.”
