Spinaway S. (G1) heroine R HEAT LIGHTNING (Trippi) leads the nine-horse
contingent in the $300,000 Frizette S. (G1) at Belmont Park on Saturday, but
we’re going to take a chance against the likely favorite. VALIANT PASSION (Lion Heart), third as the favorite in the recent Spinaway S.
(G1) last out for conditioner Todd Pletcher, is well drawn on the outside and
could get a much better trip in this from the outside post under Jose Lezcano. We’ll tab the lightly raced filly for big success if she settles off the
expected rapid early pace.

R Heat Lightning has never run poorly and could be as good as her last
indicated, but we feel she had a dream set up last out and might be just a bit
vulnerable in here from the rail post. With that said, we will include the
Pletcher pupil in our multi-race wagers under John Velazquez.

Maiden vixen JOYFUL VICTORY (Tapit) bagged a two-turn race at Delaware Park
in her lone try and could be any type for trainer Tony Dutrow. The expensive
two-year-old purchase broke from the 12 post that day and endured a lengthy duel
in the lane to come out on top, and the tough race will likely do her good
in this affair. We love the connections surrounding this filly and were
impressed by her bullet half-mile drill leading up to this, so we will use her
in our multi-race plays.

TAP FOR LUCK (Tapit) was a very impressive winner at first asking for
Pletcher and rates a chance in here after earning a 102 BRIS Speed number in her
initial outing. The gray juvenile miss chased a quick pace and closed well in
her lone effort, and with breeding that suggests that she can handle more
ground, it’s logical to think that she can impact this race late. Alex Solis has
the call.

The Bob Baffert-trained A Z WARRIOR (Bernardini) will make her dirt debut in
here, and we don’t dismiss horses shipping in from this barn all that often. A
winner at first asking, the filly was fifth last out in the Del Mar Debutante
(G1) last out but could be a totally different animal on dirt, and we will toss
her in our exotics, especially if she is live on the toteboard. AFTER LATER (Orientate) cruised home an emphatic, 7 1/4-length winner in her
first try at Monmouth Park for conditioner Patrick Biancone, closing strongly as
the 6-5 favorite. The chestnut is another who could be any type, but she earned
only an 88 BRIS Speed figure and we’ll have to let her beat us at this stage of
her development.

MAPLE FOREST (Forestry), another Pletcher charge, was second in the Sorority
S. in her most recent effort and has excellent early speed, but we have some
concerns about how far this miss wants to run. David Cohen retains the mount. PROMISE ME A CAT (D’wildcat) or COAX LIBERTY (Successful Appeal) would be a
shock.
