Eight have been entered to contest Sunday’s $250,000 Kelso H. (G2) at Belmont
on Sunday. TIZWAY (Tiznow), unraced since finishing third in the Metropolitan H.
(G1) in May, is due to break through at this level before long and rates a big
chance in here for trainer James Bond. The dark bay runs well fresh and has
never missed the board in four local tries, and we envision him getting a dream
trip in this endeavor beneath Rajiv Maragh.

Multiple Grade 2 hero REGAL RANSOM (Distorted Humor) is the one to beat and
will be tough with his best, but the colt is starting to resemble a
need-the-lead type, and we’re not sure if he clears this field early under Alan
Garcia. The accomplished four-year-old was a smart allowance winner at Saratoga
last out and has smoked a pair of bullets in preparation of this, but we would
not be enticed by a short price. The Godolphin color bearer is an obvious must
use, though.

Suburban H. (G2) second CONVOCATION (Pulpit) has earned triple-digit BRIS
Speed numbers in five of his last six outings and sports a useful 6-1-4-0 mark
at Belmont Park. The four-year-old has a solid record at the distance, and if the
speed backs up some in here, he could be tough to hold off for trainer Jimmy
Jerkens.

Multiple stakes victor COOL COAL MAN (Mineshaft) looks like another contender
in this competitive heat for conditioner Nick Zito, and the consistent
five-year-old will be included in our multi-race plays under Julien Leparoux.
Dual Grade 3 winner MYTHICAL POWER (Congaree) is not the most consistent horse
in the group but is very capable on his best days. The Bob Baffert trainee
stayed on well for second in the Woodward S. (G1) most recently and might
benefit from the cut back in trip. We like the presence of pilot Garrett
Gomez and will use the four-year-old in some of our gimmicks.

Longacres Mile (G3) runner-up JERSEY TOWN (Speightstown) has run first or
second in eight of his nine career starts and returns to the barn of Barclay
Tagg for this test. The well-bred chestnut might but a notch below some of these
at this stage of his career but he’s in good form and has room for improvement,
so we would not be shocked if he got a minor share of this race with a
well-timed ride. Reigning champ LE GRAND CRU (Dynaformer) benefited from this
race coming off the turf last year but faces a much deeper cast on this day, and
we can’t back him today. CAIXA ELECTRONICA (Arromanches) looks overmatched on
the big class rise.
