Current stakes-winning three-year-old BALTIMORE BELLE (Bowman’s Band) easily
ranked as the top lot at Monday’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed Sale
when going to R. Larry Johnson for $130,000. The next to last horse to go
through the ring as Hip No. 348 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds at Timonium,
the dark bay was consigned by Sally Thomas, agent, to dissolve the partnership
of Kaygar Stable and Robert Gerczak.

Baltimore Belle capped a three-race winning streak with a successful stakes
debut in the October 2 Maryland Million Oaks at Laurel. The John Secor trainee
has raced once since, finishing second in the November 13 Twixt S. at the same
venue. Baltimore Belle has compiled a record of 13-4-5-1, $140,814.

Out of the multiple stakes-placed Gabby’s Love (Perkin Warbeck), the
Maryland-bred Baltimore Belle is a half-sister to current multiple stakes hero
and Grade 3-placed Baltimore Bob (Malibu Moon) as well as stakes victress
Gabianna (Deerhound). Gabby’s Love is herself a full sister to multiple stakes
scorer War Hostage. Further back, this is the family of Hall of Famer Skip Away
(Skip Trial) and multiple Grade 2 winner Crafty Friend (Crafty Prospector).

The second-best seller was stakes winner HOLLY’S WAY (Seattle Fitz [Arg]),
who brought a winning bid of $35,000 from James Miller. Offered by Beau Lane and
Dick Beattie, the four-year-old was cataloged as Hip 136. The Pennsylvania-bred
was produced by the Dance Brightly mare Cream Rises.

At the close of the one-day sale, Fasig-Tipton reported that 158 horses were
sold for $968,100, an increase of 24.7 percent from the $776,300 realized by 169
head last year. The average rose 33.4 percent, from $4,593 to $6,127, while the
median was unchanged at $2,000.
