QUELLE AMORE (Monsun) and SHAMWARI LODGE (Hawk Wing) shared top billing on
the third day of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale at 300,000 guineas apiece,
as trade continued in strong fashion, albeit without the fireworks that
frequented the second day.

The third session saw a total of 174 lots sell for 5,563,000 guineas, at an
average of 31,971 guineas and a median of 16,000 guineas. The aggregate and
average represented slight declines of 9 percent and 15.8 percent on the
corresponding session in 2009 when 161 were purchased for 6,112,800 guineas, at
an average of 37,968 guineas. The median showed no change on 12 months ago.

First to sell for 300,000 guineas was Lot No. 1891, the Group 2-winning mare
Quelle Amore, who was knocked down to Northern Farms’ representative Fumihiko
Nakajima after he saw off agent Grant Pritchard Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock and
Irish breeder Paddy Twomey. Consigned from Andreas Jacobs’ Newsells Park Stud,
the seven-year-old was offered in foal to Dubawi, the leading second season
stallion in Europe this year.

Later in the evening Kern Lillingston’s Ed Sackville also went to 300,000
guineas to secure Lot 1973, Irish Group 3 victress Shamwari Lodge. The six-time
winning daughter of the Revoque mare Ripalong, herself a half-sister to dual
highweight and Group 1 queen Pipalong (Pips Pride), was purchased by Sackville
after he saw off the determined Eishin Farms trio from Japan. Sackville
purchased the Barnane Stud-consigned and Andrew Russell-owned four-year-old
filly on behalf of Ronan Burns of Lodge Park Stud.

“She was an exceptionally tough racing filly and that was what we
particularly liked,” Sackville said. “She also scoped exceptionally well with a
Grade 1 result. She has been bought as a breeding prospect.”

APPEARANCE (Galileo [Ire]) was the first filly of the keenly anticipated
consignment from Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms as Lot 1910 and also
proved the most popular after being knocked down to Newmarket trainer Luca
Cumani for 280,000 guineas after he saw off BBA Ireland’s Eamonn Reilly. The
daughter of Group 3 winner Apogee (Shirley Heights) is a half-sister to four
Group/Listed winners, including 2002 Prix de Royallieu (Fr-G2) heroine and Prix
de Diane Hermes (French Oaks) (Fr-G1) runner-up Dance Routine (Sadler’s Wells).

“She has been bought for a client and I am delighted to buy this filly,”
Cumani said. “She is very classy, and the rest of the family is in excellent
hands. She will be mated to Dubawi.”

The 31 fillies sold from the Juddmonte Farms consignment realized a total of
1,123,000 guineas.
