Doncaster Breeze-Up commences

Last updated: 4/19/11 4:45 PM

Hot on the heels of last week’s Craven extravaganza, Wednesday’s Breeze-Up
staged by Doncaster Bloodstock Sales keeps the bandwagon rolling. By now, it is
common knowledge that this auction became the first of its kind in Europe to
boast a classic winner in the 2006 One Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) heroine
Speciosa, who was bought for a mere 30,000 guineas. Doncaster have reason to be
bullish, as the top-class Paco Boy (Ire), Total Gallery and last year’s
joint-champion juvenile Dream Ahead (Diktat) — purchased for £36,000 12 months
ago — are other names to add to the mix.

Much of the interest in the 193-strong catalog will surround the first-crop
sires who are already off the blocks with winners in 2011, namely Amadeus Wolf,
Dark Angel, Dutch Art, Dylan Thomas (Ire), Lawman, Red Clubs and Teofilo, while
recent updates include the half-sister to last week’s Nell Gwyn S. (Eng-G3)
heroine Barefoot Lady (Footstepsinthesand []GB]). Consigned by Brendan Holland’s
Grove Stud, Lot No. 97 has the added attraction of being by Dubawi, and is one
of only two by Darley’s star sire in the book.

“This sale has an outstanding record for success on the racecourse and,
having been the only sale to sell a European classic winner, we are delighted
that we have again broken new ground by selling the top-rated two-year-old of
2010 in Dream Ahead,” Managing Director Henry Beeby commented. “He is an
extremely exciting prospect for 2011, but graduates of his caliber are not
unique, and Group 1 winners, Royal Ascot winners and top class two-year-olds are
exactly what this sale is famous for. We are proud of the fact that this sale
continues to be Europe’s leading breeze-up for winners year on year.

“As a result of this success, we are delighted that vendors have shown great
faith in DBS and helped us to put together a catalogue that is nothing short of
exceptional. Whilst the pedigrees are some of the best to have ever featured at
this sale, the DBS inspection team are delighted with the physical specimens
that have been put forward by our professional band of vendors, and we are
confident that this sale will appeal to purchasers looking to race horses on
every continent and has all the requirements for a premier league breeze-up
sale.”
