Madefromlucky rebounds in West Virginia Derby, Work All
Week impresses at Mountaineer

Cheyenne Stables and Mac Nichol’s Madefromlucky (Lookin at Lucky) rallied to
overhaul Souper Colossal (War Front) and posted a 1 1/2-length victory in the
$750,000
West Virginia Derby (G2)
at Mountaineer, rebounding from a well-beaten sixth
to American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in the June 6 Belmont Stakes (G1).

Winner of the Peter Pan (G2) two starts previously, the chestnut colt was
ridden for the first time by Joe Bravo and added to Todd Pletcher’s tremendous
afternoon — the leading trainer won three graded stakes on Saturday. His other
winners were Rock Fall (Speightstown) in the A.P. Vanderbilt (G1) and Red Rifle
(Giant’s Causeway) in the Bowling Green (G2), both coming at Saratoga.

The nine-race stakes program featured a memorable performance
from reigning sprint champion Work All Week (City Zip), who bounced back after
opening his 2015 with a pair of runner-up finishes as the 1-5 favorite in the
$100,000

Senator Bobert C. Byrd Memorial
. The
Roger Brueggerman-trained six-year-old gelding rolled to an eight-length
decision with regular rider Florent Geroux, completing six furlongs in a highly
respectable 1:09.71.
