‘All others’ favored, McCraken top individual in KDFW; Unique Bella towers over KOFW

Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW), which ran from Friday through Sunday evening, produced a tight finish among the top four wagering interests.

“All Others,” the mutuel field of three-year-olds not listed as individual choices, rated as the 5-1 favorite. That option had been even more strongly favored in Pools 1 (closing at 6-5) and 2 (closing at 5-2).

McCraken wasn’t far behind at 6-1, making him the top individual choice in Pool 3. Fellow unbeatens Irish War Cry (7-1) and Mastery (8-1) were also in close proximity. Champion Classic Empire, who had been the favored individual in Pools 1 and 2, drifted to 11-1 after his Holy Bull (G2) loss and ensuing hoof abscess.

Running concurrently was the year’s only Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, and just as she’s done on the racetrack, Unique Bella turned this into a runaway. Jerry Hollendorfer’s ascendant filly was bet down to even-money favoritism.

The mutuel field was the next preference at 9-1, followed closely by the 10-1 Farrell. The only other choice at less than 20-1 was Elate, whose odds contracted from a 30-1 morning line to 18-1.
