Chaposa Springs rescheduled to retain Grade 3 status

Last updated: 12/3/04 4:40 PM

Calder Racing Secretary Bob Umphrey has rescheduled the $100,000 Chaposa Springs H.
from New Year’s Day to December 31 in order to preserve its Grade 3 status.

“We feel it is very important to the owners and breeders of the fillies and
mares that will run in this race to earn the graded status as it has been
advertised all year, that is why we’re making the change to run the race 24
hours earlier,” he said.

The seven-furlong test was downgraded on Wednesday from Grade 3 to ungraded
status for 2005 by the American Graded Stakes Committee.

The rescheduling leaves a hole on the Grand Slam III program, but Umphrey is
carding another stakes race in its place, maintaining the theme of the event and
keeping the All-Stakes Pick 4 wager intact. The new race will be the $50,000
Happy New Year S. for newly turned three-year-old fillies going five furlongs on
the turf.
