Ten female sprinters will line up for Sunday’s $150,000 Vagrancy H. (G2) at
Belmont Park, and EMERALD EARRINGS (Helmsman) could steal the 6 1/2-furlong
event on the front end. The Bruce Alexander trainee received a nice tightener
last out at Monmouth Park, earning a 101 BRIS Speed rating in her seasonal bow,
and the four-year-old earned commendable Speed and BRIS Pace ratings in 2004. She’s
worked well since her last and won’t face much early speed from her outside
post. Jockey Chris DeCarlo has a fine chance to lead all the way with Emerald
Earrings.

BANK AUDIT (Wild Rush) is as game as they come, recording a 4-1-0 mark from
six starts so far in 2005, and enters the Vagrancy off perhaps her career best,
a nose triumph in the Genuine Risk H. (G2) at Belmont Park. The four-year-old
filly rallied from near the back of the pack that afternoon, but she owns the
tactical speed to sit close to an expected slower pace on Sunday. She’ll
probably loom as a dangerous factor turning for home.

SMOKEY GLACKEN (Forestry) probably needed her last off the layoff and appears
capable of challenging for the top three with a return to form. She’s proved
extremely honest in the past, recording a 2-2-1 mark from five starts in 2004,
and fits well at the level for trainer James Jerkens. Jockey Jose Santos will be
able to let the race unfold from his outside post before offering a challenge.

SENSIBLY CHIC (Distorted Humor) owns a case of seconditis, grabbing runner-up
honors in her last three starts, but she merits serious respect based on her
century-topping Speed ratings. The chestnut mare has been traveling wide in her
last couple of starts and will break from an outside post here, but she remains
a top contender.

ENDER’S SISTER (A.P. Indy) cuts back to a sprint and could show some speed
from the rail. The Rusty Arnold-trained miss owns respectable form and could
grab part with a forwardly placed trip. PLEASANT HOME (Seeking the Gold) likes
Belmont (3-2-0-1) and we’re willing to throw out her last over a sloppy track.
The dark bay is a threat to wake up with a better showing while cutting back in
distance for conditioner Shug McGaughey, so consider the four-year-old for the
exotics.

TRACI GIRL (Quiet American) could last longer than expected under a
front-running ride from Mike Luzzi, but she may prefer a little more ground.
FRIENDLY MICHELLE (Artax) earned a Grade 1 win last summer at Belmont, but she
tailed off following that score and returned with a dull showing in her seasonal
bow. We’ll watch for now. FORTY MOVES (Gold Fever) enters off a disappointing
effort in the Genuine Risk and doesn’t appear to be at the top of her game
presently. BALDOMERA (Doneraile Court) will need to improve significantly upon
her recent performances to challenge.
