IEAH Stables, Curragh Stables and Richard Schiavo’s KAZOO (Tabasco
Cat) pulled off to an early lead in Saturday’s $107,400
Toboggan H. (G3) at
Aqueduct and was never collared, drawing off to a four-length score at the wire. The
Richard Dutrow trainee was sent to the front by jockey Richard Migliore, setting
splits of :22 and :44 3/5 over the fast track in a ground-saving trip on the
rail with Bishop Court Hill (Holy Bull) to his outside. The eight-year-old
chestnut started to pull away, opening up a five-length advantage in the stretch
through five furlongs in :56 2/5 and
completing the six-furlong affair in 1:09 1/5.

“I’ve ridden him over the last three or four years, and every time I
ride him, I just let him rock,” Migliore said. “He broke today like a scalded
cat.”

Leaving the gate at 5-1, Kazoo returned $13, $6.40 and $4.70.
Bishop Court Hill held off Wild Jam (Forest Wildcat) for second by a nose to
end the $43.80 exacta and give back $4.20 and $3.20 at 5-2. Wild Jam paid $3.50
for the bronze position at 4-1, completing a $132.50 trifecta (1-2-6).
Rounding out the order of finish were 2-1 favorite High Blitz (Lucky Lionel),
Banjo Picker (Swear By Dixie) and Primary Suspect (Hennessy).

“We haven’t really looked ahead yet with this horse,” Mike Sherack
said, representing part-owners IEAH Stables. “We really just wanted to get a graded stakes win. He’s the kind of
horse that’s been a high-end claimer, low-end stakes horse. He’s got some
pedigree. Maybe we’ll get a shot at making him a stallion.”

Bred in Florida by Brylynn Farm, Kazoo is out of the multiple-stakes winning Vennila Cream (Valid Appeal), who produced last year’s Rushaway
S. runner-up Daddy Joe (Unbridled’s Song) as well. Vennila Cream is also the
granddam of 2005 Jack Price Juvenile S. winner and recent Pasco S. second
Electrify (Delaware Township). Her latest foals are a two-year-old
filly named Vennila Appeal (Buddha) and an unnamed yearling colt by Lemon Drop
Kid.

Over seven seasons of racing, Kazoo has compiled a record of 38-10-6-7 with
$467,414. This was his first graded stakes victory and his second stakes score
overall, having captured the 2002 F. W. Gaudin Memorial H. at the Fair Grounds.
