Numbers way up on second Friday at Keeneland

ESHAARAT (GB) (Zafonic), the dam of stakes-placed juvenile Untitled Blues
(Stravinsky), sold for the top price of $220,000 to Lakeview Stud at Friday’s
session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in Lexington, Kentucky.
Lakeview Stud purchased the seven-year-old mare, who is in foal on a March 19
cover to Southern Image, from the consignment of Gainesway, agent for
Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings. Eshaarat was cataloged as Hip No. 4330.

Untitled Blues finished second in the Prix de la Vallee d’Auge in her debut
at Deauville and most recently finished fourth in the Prix d’Arenberg (Fr-G3) at
Chantilly.

Eshaarat is a half-sister to stakes-placed Falak (Diesis [GB]) and
Amaranthus (Kingmambo), the dam of stakes winner Bravo Maestro (Stravinsky). She
is out of Tafrah (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells), a full sister to French Group 1 winner
Chief Contender (Ire) and a half-sister to Irish Group 1 winner Aviance (Ire)
(Northfields), the dam of multiple Group 1-winning highweight Chimes of Freedom (Private
Account) and multiple Grade 1 winner Denon (Pleasant Colony).

A colt by Van Nistelrooy was the most expensive weanling, selling for
$150,000 to Lynn Lodge Stud. Sporting Hip 4293, the bay is the sixth registered foal out of Classical Code
(Lost Code), a half-sister to stakes-placed Masse’ (Air Forbes One). This is the
same female family as five-time Horse of the Year Kelso (Your Host).

The Pennsylvania-bred was consigned by Margaux Farm, agent for Beth Ann
Brown-Gambone.

On Friday, 230 horses sold for $3,935,400, an increase of 32.3 percent
compared to the same session last year when 226 horses sold for $2,974,100. The
average price jumped 30 percent, from $13,160 to $17,110, while the median
priced soared 40.6 percent, from $8,000 to $11,250.

Through 12 sessions, 2,896 horses changed hands for $336,627,500, an increase
of 8 percent compared to 2006 when 2,861 horses realized $311,554,100. The
average price is up 6.7 percent, from $108,897 to $116,239, while the median
price has risen 7.1 percent, from $42,000 to $45,000.
