Goldikova to aim for Breeders’ Cup

Prix Rothschild (Fr-G1) winner GOLDIKOVA (Anabaa) is being geared towards a
tilt at the Breeders’ Cup, trainer Freddy Head announced Monday. Following the
Wertheimer Brothers homebred’s half-length defeat of Darjina (Zamindar) in last
Sunday’s mile contest at Deauville, her connections are plotting a build-up to
the Santa Anita meeting on October 24 and 25

“I’m very happy with her, she has come out of the race well,” Head told PA
Sport. “I think she will go to the Prix du Moulin ([Fr-G1] at Longchamp
on September 7) next, she won’t run in the Prix Jacques le Marois (Fr-G1). The
Wertheimers had the choice, but they said they wanted to go to America for the
Breeders’ Cup and they didn’t want her to run too many times. We tried her over
further in the Prix de Diane (Fr-G1), but she shows so much speed that I think
we’ll keep her to a mile.

“There is the (Ladies’ Classic) (G1) race, the Filly & Mare Turf (G1) or the
Mile (G1), we’ll see, but she will stick to a mile in Europe. She is very fast,
I wouldn’t be afraid of running her over six furlongs.”

Head also confirmed that Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Prix Jean Prat
(Fr-G1) winner TAMAYUZ (GB) (Nayef) remains on course for the August 17 Prix
Jacques le Marois at the Deauville festival and Carla Giral’s MARCHAND D’OR (Marchand
de Sable) is set for a hat-trick attempt in Sunday’s Prix Maurice de Gheest
(Fr-G1).
