Harold L. Queen’s homebred BIG DRAMA (Montbrook) became just the sixth horse
in history to sweep the Florida Stallion S. when racking up his fourth straight
score at Calder on Saturday in the $400,000
In
Reality
division under jockey Pascacio Lopez. The David Fawkes-conditioned
dark bay stalked the early pace after being forced to steady leaving the first
turn, slipped through on the inside to grab the lead exiting the final turn and
drew off to earn the easy five-length score while completing 1 1/16 miles on the
fast dirt in 1:47.

Big Drama began his quest when breaking his maiden by 7 1/4 lengths in his
second career start. He would go on to take the Dr. Fager division by three
lengths and Affirmed division by 3 1/2 lengths, and was sent off the even-money
favorite here based on those performances to return $4, $2.80 and $2.10. Three
Part Harmony (Concerto) found himself filling the runner-up spot for the second
straight time after running behind Big Drama in the Affirmed last out. He was
worth $6.20 and $4 while ending the $30 exacta at 10-1. Edgemoor (Halo’s Image)
captured his maiden by 12 1/2 lengths prior to this one and moved up to grab
third here, giving back $4.20 at 9-1 and completing the $147.80 trifecta. It was
another 1 1/4 lengths back to Sincero (Repent), who grabbed fourth by a head to
wrap-up the $1,173.80 superfecta (1-11-10-2).

This One’s For Phil (Untuttable), Meshuga (Macho Uno), Storm Slew (Weekend
Cruise), Slew of Smoke (Black Mambo), Sayers (Trippi), Ambuscader (Concorde’s
Tune) and Dryden (Double Honor) completed the order under the wire after Casey’s
on Call (Gimmeawink) was scratched.

The Florida-bred Big Drama has now earned $410,250 to go along with his
5-4-0-1 mark, and was produced by the unraced Riveting Drama (Notebook), making
him a half-brother to undefeated stakes victress Drama’s Way (Farma Way) and an
unnamed weanling colt by Burning Roma.

La Chica Sensual has more than earned back
her $6,000 purchase price

When the fillies took the track, LA CHICA SENSUAL (Lightnin N
Thunder) asserted her superiority to record a 4 1/2-length victory in
the $400,000

My Dear Girl
division. The Pablo Andrade-trained gray settled in
midpack under jockey Eddie Castro, came with her run four wide at the
top of the stretch and easily drew off to finish the 8 1/2 furlongs in
1:48 2/5.

Sent off the 6-5 favorite in the 14-filly field, La Chica Sensual was
worth $4.60, $3.20 and $2.80 while starting the $28.20 exacta and
$259.40 trifecta. Trippi’s Greatstar (Trippi), off at 6-1, tracked in
behind the dueling pacesetters Whatta Light (Colony Light) and Garter
Belt (Anasheed) through splits of :24, :49 and 1:14 3/5. The bay lass
managed to get up to grab second by a half-length over Exe (Exchange
Rate), returning $6.20 and $4.40 while show paid $10.40 at 19-1.

Garter Belt faded in the stretch, but still held for fourth at 56-1
to complete the $6,982.40 superfecta (10-3-1-5). Next under the line
were Black Russian (Black Mambo), Tailbytherail (Read the Footnotes),
Tiger’s Song (Roar of the Tiger), Whatta Light, Mi Carola (Repent),
Dreaminadream (Eltish), Cumana (Full Mandate), Aroma de Mujer (Trippi),
R Brown Sugar (Exchange Rate) and Diced N Sliced (Three Wonders). Cinque
Bella (Full Mandate) and Samantha G (Macho Uno) didn’t draw into the
race from the also-eligible list.

La Chica Sensual just missed sweeping all three of the filly Florida Stallion
S. divisions, taking the Desert Vixen division by 8 1/4 lengths before falling a
head short in the Susan’s Girl division prior to this one. Also second in the J
J’sdream S., the gray miss improved her mark to 6-4-2-0 to go along with
$365,660 in earnings.

Bred by Arthur I. Appleton in Florida, La Chica Sensual was a bargain as a
$6,000 OBS August yearling last year. She is out of the unraced Unbridled mare
Lerma and has a pair of unnamed half-siblings, a yearling filly by Halo’s Image
and a weanling colt by Act of Duty.

Earlier on Calder’s program, Dare to Dream Farm’s homebred FROLIC’S DREAM (Smoke
Glacken) dominated the $100,000
Cassidy S. by 12 3/4 front-running lengths. The
Marty Wolfson-trained juvenile lass set a new stakes record when finishing up
the 5 1/2-furlong event in 1:04 1/5 with Jermaine Bridgmohan aboard. Making her stakes debut in this race, the
gray filly is now perfect from two lifetime starts and has accumulated $70,934
in earnings. Frolic’s Dream could show up next on November 8, Florida Million
Day at Calder, for the $150,000 Joe O’Farrell Juvenile Fillies S. going seven
furlongs, according to Dare to Dream owner Robert Murphy.

Kramer Stables’ YOU LUCKIE MANN (Exchange Rate) wrapped up the Festival of
the Sun stakes action when leading wire-to-wire in the $100,000

Birdonthewire S.
Giving Bridgmohan and Wolfson their third stakes wins on
the program, the juvenile colt was in command at every point and simply pulled
away to be 11 lengths clear on the line while completing 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04
1/5. The gray, who broke his maiden by 14 3/4 lengths at first asking before
running third in the previous two Florida Stallion S., got back into the winner’s
circle with this score, which boosted his record to 4-2-0-2, $101,500.
