Voting on racing’s ‘Moment of the Year’ underway

Voters may now choose from 10 images drawn from the year’s racing in the
National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s (NTRA) eighth annual “Moment of the
Year.” The winning moment will be announced at the Eclipse Awards in Beverly
Hills, California, on January 22, 2007.

The images and events for this year, listed chronologically, are:











  Barbaro wins the Kentucky Derby (G1) by a whopping 6
1/2 lengths
  Barbara is injured in the Preakness S. (G1) as
Bernardini wins impressively
  The racing world keeps vigil as Barbaro fights for his
life at the New Bolton Center
  Lava Man wins the Pacific Classic (G1), becoming the
first horse to sweep the Santa Anita H. (G1), Hollywood Gold Cup (G1)
and Pacific Classic in the same year
  Trainer Todd Pletcher breaks D. Wayne Lukas’ records
for most stakes wins and graded stakes wins in one year
  Street Sense rolls to victory in the Breeders’ Cup
Juvenile (G1) by a stakes-record 10 lengths
  Ouija Board displays her dominance in capturing a
second Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1)
  Invasor defeats Bernardini in a thrilling Breeders’ Cup
Classic (G1)
  Discreet Cat equals Easy Goer’s track record in taking
the Cigar Mile (G1) at Aqueduct
  Jockey Russell Baze breaks Laffit Pincay Jr.’s record
for most career victories

Past chosen moments include jockey Chris Antley holding up Charismatic’s
injured leg following the 1999 Belmont S. (G1), Tiznow’s 2000 Breeders’ Cup
Classic victory over Giant’s Causeway and Tiznow taking the next year’s
Breeders’ Cup Classic over Sakhee.

“The NTRA Moment of the Year gives fans a voice and a sense of ownership at
the Eclipse Awards,” said Keith Chamblin, NTRA senior vice-president of
communications and industry relations. “It allows them to salute the people,
horses and memories that make our sport so appealing. We look forward to seeing
which Moment they select as this year’s winner.”

Those 18 years and older can register to vote online at ntra.com. Entries
must be received by 11:59 p.m. (EST) on January 15, 2007. Those voters who
choose the winning image will automatically be entered in a random drawing for a
grand prize of $1,000.
