Cry and Catch Me (Street Cry [Ire]), the co-third choice at 6-1 on the
morning line, was scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) on
Wednesday after coming down with a temperature. Consequently, 13 two-year-old
fillies will decide the 1 1/16-mile event, and IZARRA (Distorted Humor) is our
top choice. The Ron McAnally trainee is a rapidly improving sort and comes off a
near miss in the Oak Leaf S. (G1). That day, the bay filly was restrained early,
settled nicely, then advanced on the outside around the turn before finishing
second by a nose to the front-running Cry and Catch Me. In her previous start,
she was taken back early, then made a sweeping four-wide move around the far turn
before finishing well for third in the seven-furlong Del Mar Debutante S. (G1). Izarra, a granddaughter of the great Bayakoa (Arg), is bred to relish an off
track (she is out of a Broad Brush mare) and should offer good value.

A TO THE CROFT (Menifee) has finished second in her last three starts — all
top-level graded stakes. The Kenny McPeek trainee was a closing second in both
the one-turn Adirondack S. (G2) and Spinaway S. (G1) at Saratoga. In her most
recent outing, the chestnut filly settled in midfield on the outside in the run
down the backstretch, advanced three or four wide while close up around the
second turn, then finished well for second in the two-turn Alcibiades S. (G1) on
Polytrack at Keeneland. A to the Croft could work out a trip from the outside
post and rally for a share.

Our sleeper is BACKSEAT RHYTHM (El Corredor), who comes off a good second in
the Frizette S. (G1) at Belmont Park. The Patrick Reynolds trainee defeated
eventual Alcibiades winner Country Star (Empire Maker) at this distance on the
turf in her previous start and appears to be an improving sort. She could crash
the vertical exotics at attractive odds.

Undefeated SMARTY DEB (Smart Strike) is our longshot special. The chestnut
lass is undefeated in four starts and exits back-to-back stakes victories around
two turns at Emerald Downs. Smarty Deb has been based at Monmouth Park since
October 5 and has two workouts over the surface, including one in the mud. A
natural stalker, she could surprise at 30-1 on the morning line.

Del Mar maiden winner GRACE ANATOMY (Aldebaran) broke slowly, then worked her
way into a forward position before taking the lead in midstretch and holding on
gamely for third, beaten 1 1/4 lengths, in the Alcibiades. The Doug O’Neill
trainee will be ridden for the first time by Lanfranco Dettori and is worth a
second look.

PROUD SPELL (Proud Citizen) is undefeated in three starts and exits a solid
stalk-and-pounce victory in the seven-furlong Matron S. (G2). The Larry
Jones-trained filly recorded an excellent workout on Monday at Delaware Park but
could go forth at underlaid odds. The Bob Baffert-trained INDIAN BLESSING (Indian
Charlie) rolled to a 4 1/2-length victory in the Frizette, but finished her
final quarter-mile in shriveling :27 1/5. The speedy filly could be vulnerable
in her two-turn debut as the 3-1 morning line favorite.

IRISH SMOKE (Smoke Glacken) easily won her first two, including the
prestigious Spinaway, but faded to last when making her synthetic track debut in
the Alcibiades. She could rebound with a return to form at square odds under
regular rider Julien Leparoux. The Bill Mott-trained ZEE ZEE (Exchange Rate) was
a good-looking winner of the 1 1/16-mile Happy Ticket S. on the grass at
Louisiana Downs. She worked well earlier this week and is an intriguing price
play at 30-1 on the morning line.

Sorrento S. (G3) winner TASHA’S MIRACLE (Harlan’s Holiday) advanced quickly
on the outside around the far turn before finishing fifth in the Oak Leaf. She
has never raced on dirt and adds blinkers. The bay filly has some talent but
could be overbet. Del Mar Debutante queen SET PLAY (Van Nistelrooy) was
forwardly placed before diminishing to seventh in the Oak Leaf. Like the one
above, she will be making her dirt debut and is hard to gauge.

The speedy PHANTOM INCOME (Montbrook) breaks from the rail and could be the
undoing of Indian Blessing. The gray filly is very fast but it is hard to
envision her getting this distance. CLEARLY FOXY is from the first crop of 2002
Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Volponi and will try to emulate her sire with
a surprising upset.
