Saturday’s $2 million Mile (G1) features a contentious field of 14,
including a pair of European invaders in JEREMY (Danehill Dancer) and EXCELLENT
ART (GB) (Pivotal). We’ll use both in our top three, but we’re selecting NOBIZ
LIKE SHOBIZ (Albert the Great) for top honors.
Trained by Barclay Tagg, Nobiz Like Shobiz displayed class at two when
Nobiz Like Shobiz made his turf bow in the National Museum of Racing Hall of

Excellent Art drew a tough post (13), but can’t be dismissed from win
consideration. Hero of the St James’s Palace S. (Eng-G1) three starts back, the
Aidan O’Brien runner will enter the Mile off a pair of close seconds in the
Queen Elizabeth II (Eng-G1) and Sussex. He’s a deep closer who will have to deal
with a tight seven-furlong course at Monmouth Park, but Excellent Art always
seems to be in the thick of things regardless of circumstances. The
three-year-old colt looks like a major player on paper, but there’s a chance
he’ll leave himself with too much to do in the stretch run.
TRIPPI’S STORM (Trippi) closed boldly to capture the Kelso H. (G2) last out,
earning his first stakes victory in the process, and the Stan Hough pupil earned
strong BRIS numbers for the half-length decision. The four-year-old gelding
didn’t make his stakes bow until four starts back in mid-July, and he’d been
competing at longer distances prior to cutting back for the one-mile Kelso.
Trippi’s Storm appears to have found a home at eight furlongs, and he’ll enter
the Mile on the upswing. This represents a major class test, but we’ll include
the improving gelding in multi-race wagers.
REMARKABLE NEWS (Ven) (Chayim) scares us. Post 14 appeared to be a death
sentence on Tuesday, but the front runner captured the Dixie S. (G2) from the
far outside (post 11) — sprinting to the front and getting over to the rail
early — and he might be able to employ similar tactics on Saturday. The
five-year-old needed his last race, a very respectable fourth in the Woodbine
Mile (Can-G1) off a layoff, and we won’t be surprised to see a career best on
the front end from the classy performer. Listed at 12-1 on the morning line with
Ramon Dominguez, Remarkable News looms as a viable upsetter with his speed.
SILENT NAME (Jpn) (Sunday Silence) isn’t a serious contender, but he’s going
to be a huge price and will bring some attributes into this spot. A multiple
Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed, the five-year-old will enter this
event fresh for his new conditioner Bobby Frankel, who excels with horses
switching to his barn and making their first start off an extended layoff.
Silent Name appears to be working well for his return, and he gets the services
of a “big-money” rider in Kent Desormeaux. We’re going to use him on the bottom
of some gimmicks.
ICY ATLANTIC (Stormy Atlantic) was purchased to be a pacesetter for English

COSMONAUT (Lemon Drop Kid) will likely be forwardly placed under Julien
Leparoux, but he failed to sustain a clear lead in the stretch of the Shadwell
last time and will face much more difficult customers here. HOST (Chi) (Hussonet),
a Grade 1 winner from the Pletcher shedrow, hasn’t displayed his best form this
season. The seven-year-old’s biggest career win, the Shadwell,
came in 2005, and the old timer doesn’t look up to this challenge.
AFTER MARKET (Storm Cat) owns the class to be a major factor, but he needs it
firm and won’t get those conditions on Saturday. He’ll likely be scratched.
REBELLION (GB) (Mozart [Ire]) is a turf sprinter who looks overmatched here.
